Class Schedule
In my classes and workshops, I try to help my students realize that there is an artist within themselves, just waiting to express itself. I will share with you all the basic techniques of watercolor. But, it is my hope in sharing with you my love of watercolor, that you will go beyond the basics of technique and experience many hours of unlimited creativity. In my classes I have noticed that many of the same lessons that apply to art also apply to life. It is because of this that I believe we are all artists creating the greatest masterpiece of all, life.

Watercolor Workshop
Day 1 -
White flowers in the wet-in-wet style with lots of negative painting. Subject could be daisies, matilija poppies, wild roses or some other white flower.Day 2 -
A landscape with the feeling of sunlight filtering through trees. This will be created with a wet-in-wet underpainting to set up the feeling of light. We will do negative painting to define the trees, lots of splattering to create foliage and use a stencil to lift out the rays of light.Day 3 –
A more abstract landscape with water cascading over rocks using plastic wrap, gauze and rice paper to create wonderful textures and patterns. Some collage as well.Day 4 – The color red can be challenging to work with in a painting. so, using the more direct approach where we wet just one petal at a time, lets paint some red poppies. You might even want to design a border to make your composition more interesting. Students should be sure to have a variety of reds in their palette including cadmium scarlet, winsor red, alizarin crimson and perylene violet.
Day 5 - While you may not see much snow there in San Jose, snow covered trees are a fun subject to paint. We will use masking fluid to save the white of the paper so we can put in nice smooth washes for an interesting sky. After painting this fun subject, you will be ready for that trip to the mountains for a ski weekend and a chance to view plenty of exciting subject matter. Maybe you can paint your own Christmas card for next year!
